1st step: Clean the sink, the bathtub and all other appliances and objects.
Pay attention even to the smallest details, because the dirt is everywhere and you don't want to enhance the chance of spreading allergens or unhealthy bacteria due to missing the smallest objects like the soap holder, the lamps or the mirror frames. Yet the main appliances like the bathtub and the toilet are a bit more difficult to clean. A basic bathroom cleaning products can do a perfect job, but if you have to deal with very heavy stains it's a great idea to make a simple but very effective homemade detergent.
Mix in a bowl a small amount of very hot water with teaspoon of baking soda, sea salt and some degreaser like shampoo or soap. Stir well until it forms a thicker non-abrasive paste and apply it onto the heavily stained areas while it's still hot. Scrub the stains with a grooming brush made of soft fibers like a nylon brush or an old toothbrush. Leave the paste to soak up for a while, then scrub again and wipe off the excess with a wet cloth.
2nd step: Make another homemade detergent especially for cleaning tiles and grout.
It's basically the same solution and you can use what's left from the previous mixture or make another one with the same ingredients, but this time put more hot water. Add another small amount of white vinegar and dishwashing detergent, and you are good to clean the heaviest stains on the tiles.
3rd step: Apply the detergent by a mop or a bigger towel by dabbing, scrubbing with medium force.
It's essential to apply the solution and to let it soak up for a few minutes only. Apply as much force as needed to remove the stains by wiping off the excess of the dissolved detergent. Spot clean with a stiff brush if needed, which is very convenient for cleaning the grout lines too. Then, rinse the entire tile coverings in the bathroom with hot water to remove any excess of the chemical compounds.
4th step: Use a silicone-based paste to seal the grouts.
It adds an extra layer of protection and it's especially useful in very wet rooms and areas. You can seal the tiles too, in order to protect them from further staining. Another great idea is to polish the tiles with polishing wax. Apply it onto small sections of the walls or the floor, and scrub using fast motions and medium force. Do not let the wax dry over the tiles before polishing the area, so treat small areas at a time. The final effect alters the shine, texture, colors and glossiness and it adds another extra layer of protection that also makes the tiles look like brand new.
5th step: Sanitise and deodorise the bathroom on a regular basis.
A simple sanitising cleaning product can be useful for the daily maintenance of the bathroom appliances.
